Lietavská Svinná-Babkov is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 1726 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Okres Žilina , a district of Žilinský kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the north-eastern part of the Súľovské vrchy mountains along the Svinianka brook , a tributary of the Rajčianka . The municipal area of ​​18.3 km² has brown forest soils and rendzina , the edges of the cadastral area and an area between Lietavská Svinná and Babkov are forested. The center of the village is at an altitude of 420  m nm and is 12 kilometers from Žilina .

Administratively, the municipality is divided into the municipality parts Lietavská Svinná and Babkov (incorporated in 1981). The place Kňazova Lehota (incorporated in 1907) is no longer part of the municipality today.

history

The capital Lietavská Svinná was first mentioned in writing in 1393 as Zyne and was part of the Lietava Castle estate . In 1828 it had 51 houses and 561 inhabitants.

Also in 1393, the incorporated villages Kňazova Lehota and Babkov were mentioned for the first time in writing. Both were founded under German law.
