Stránske (Hungarian Alsóosztorány - until 1907 Sztranszke u. Ä., German Eckendorf in der Raas ) is a municipality in northern Slovakia with 872 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in Okres Žilina , a district of Žilinský kraj .

geography

The municipality is located in the southwest part of the Žilinská kotlina basin at the foot of the Little Fatra , more precisely its sub-mountain range Lúčanská Fatra , in the valley of the Stránčanský creek . The center of the village is at an altitude of 487  m nm and is three kilometers from Rajecké Teplice and 14 kilometers from Žilina .

Neighboring communities are Rajecké Teplice (including the Poluvsie district) in the north and northeast, Turie and Martin in the east, Kunerad in the south and Konská in the west.

history

Stránske was first mentioned in writing in 1368 as Stranska . The village was initially owned by the Balog family , later it was part of the Strečno and Lietava territories . In 1828 there were 91 houses and 730 inhabitants who were employed as sheep and cattle keepers, beekeepers and forest workers.

Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

population

According to the 2011 census, 733 people lived in Stránske, including 682 Slovaks , two Czechs and one Magyar . 48 residents gave no information on ethnicity .

623 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, nine residents supported the Pentecostal Movement and six residents supported the Evangelical Church AB. 29 residents were non-denominational and 66 residents had no denomination.
