Čičmany ( German carpenter's house , Hungarian Csicsmány - until 1902 Csicsman ) is a municipality in north-western Slovakia with 123 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
geography
It is located about 38 km southwest of Žilina , in the Strážovské vrchy mountains , in the source area of the Rajčianka .
history
The place was first mentioned as Cziczman in 1272 .
population
According to the 2011 census, there were 170 inhabitants in Čičmany, of which 167 were Slovaks and one German . Two residents did not provide any information about their ethnicity .
155 residents professed to the Roman Catholic Church and two residents professed a different denomination. One resident was non-denominational and the denomination was not determined for 12 residents.

Čičmany is best known for its well-preserved folk architecture , wooden houses with white decorations. In 1977 the lower part of the village was placed under a preservation order and is one of ten folk architecture reserves in Slovakia.
