La Brugeoise et Nivelles , from 1977 BN Constructions Ferroviaires et Métalliques ( BN for short ), was a metal construction company and a manufacturer of rail vehicles from Belgium , which today belongs to Bombardier Transportation .
history
La Brugeoise et Nivelles was created in 1956 through a merger of La Brugeoise from Bruges , whose history dates back to 1855, and the Ateliers Métallurgiques de Nivelles . In 1977 there was another merger with Constructions Ferroviaires du Center , whereupon the name of the company was changed to BN Constructions Ferroviaires et Métalliques .
In 1986 Bombardier Transportation took over 45% of the shares in BN, and in 1988 the stake was increased to over 50%. From then on, BN was integrated into the Bombardier Group and initially referred to as BN Bombardier Eurorail and today as Bombardier Transportation Belgium . The factory in Nivelles closed in 1989 and demolished the following year to make way for a real estate project. In 2000 the plant in Manage was closed with 400 employees at last; a decision that caused a sensation because the safeguarding of jobs in the economically underdeveloped region in the decision to contract over 210 recently double-deck coaches of type M6 had given to Bombardier. The factory in Manage has been converted into a steel mill . Bombardier Transportation Belgium only manufactures rail vehicles in Bruges today .
