Dolný Vadičov (until 1927 also "Dolný Vajčov"; Hungarian Alsóvadas - until 1907 Alsóvadicsó ) is a municipality in north-western Slovakia with 482 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in Okres Kysucké Nové Mesto , a district of Žilinský kraj and at the same time in the traditional Kysuce countryside .
geography
The village is located in the Kysucká vrchovina mountain range in the central part of the Vadičovský potok valley . The highest point of the municipality is the mountain Ľadonhora ( 999 m nm ) northeast of the place. The center of the village is at an altitude of 439 m nm and is six and a half kilometers from Kysucké Nové Mesto and 16 kilometers from Žilina .
Neighboring communities are Kysucké Nové Mesto ( Budatínska Lehota district ) in the north, Horný Vadičov in the east, Kotrčiná Lúčka in the south, Žilina ( Zástranie district ) in the southwest and Lopušné Pažite in the west.
history
The first written mention of the area comes from 1385, when there was still a forest here (silva Vaditzov) . The place was founded in a clearing at the beginning of the 15th century and was still a small settlement (villula Vadychov) in 1419 . The village was owned by the Rudinszki and Nedec families and later it was part of the Strečno Castle . In 1598 there was a mill and 24 houses in Dolný Vadičov, in 1784 the village had 41 houses and 239 inhabitants, in 1828 there were 38 houses and 376 inhabitants who were employed as wire ties, manufacturers of wooden crockery, lumberjacks, farmers, clapboard manufacturers and cattle keepers.
Until 1918 the place in Trenčín County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, there were 463 inhabitants in Dolný Vadičov, 457 of them Slovaks and two Czechs . One resident indicated a different ethnic group and three residents gave no information about the ethnic group .
429 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church and four residents supported the Greek Catholic Church. 23 residents were without a denomination and the denomination was not determined for seven residents.
