Kysucký Lieskovec (Slovak 1927–1944 "Lieskovec nad Kysucou" - until 1927 just "Lieskovec"; Hungarian Újhelymogyoród - until 1907 Lieszkovec ) is a municipality in northwestern Slovakia , with 2352 inhabitants (December 31, 2019) . Administratively it belongs to the Okres Kysucké Nové Mesto , which belongs to the Žilinský kraj .
geography
The municipality, which is part of the traditional Kysuce landscape, is located on the Lodnianka brook shortly before the confluence with the Kysuca on its right bank. It extends east-west in the Lodnianka valley on the western slope of the Kysucká vrchovina mountain range . Kysucký Lieskovec is six kilometers from Kysucké Nové Mesto and 17 kilometers from Čadca .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 1438 as Leskovecz , after it was founded around 1400, and was part of the Budatín estate . In 1598 there were 13 houses and a mill, in 1784 there were 124 houses and 681 inhabitants. In the past, the village was best known for local wire ties and the manufacture of baskets.
1944–1946 the neighboring municipality of Lodno was part of Kysucký Lieskovec.

According to the 2011 census, Kysucký Lieskovec had 2349 inhabitants, 2322 of whom were Slovaks, seven Czechs, three Germans and one each Polish and Ukrainian; one resident was of a different ethnicity. 14 residents did not provide any information. 2208 residents supported the Roman Catholic Church, ten residents the Seventh-day Adventists, three residents each for the Greek Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church AB and one resident each for the Orthodox Church and the Evangelistic Church; three residents were of other denominations. 48 inhabitants were without a denomination and the denomination of 82 inhabitants has not been determined.
