Rudina (Hungarian Nagyrudas - until 1907 Nagyrudina ) is a municipality in northwest Slovakia with 1825 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and is located in Okres Kysucké Nové Mesto , a district of Žilinský kraj and at the same time in the traditional landscape of Kysuce .

geography

The village is located on the edge of the Javorníky Mountains along the Rudinský stream , not far from the confluence with the Kysuca . The village is laid out as a row village along the stream and connects at the lower end to the neighboring community of Rudinka . The center of the village is at an altitude of 387  m nm and is four kilometers from Kysucké Nové Mesto and eight kilometers from Žilina .

history

As a permanently inhabited place, Rudina emerged at the turn of the 13th to the 14th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1359 as Rugyna . Until the end of the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the Rudinszky and Csicskán families , after which the majority belonged to the Budatín Castle . In 1598 there were 17 houses, in 1784 61 houses and 448 inhabitants and finally in 1828 88 inhabitants and 672 inhabitants. The main sources of income were agriculture and forestry, sheep breeding and wire binding.

After 1907 the neighboring village of Rudinka was incorporated, but broke up again in 1950.
