The Žilina Railway Station ( Železničná stanica Žilina ) is a train station in the Slovak city of Žilina . It is an important railway junction within Slovakia, with three main lines and a branch line that are linked at the station. These are: the railway line Bratislava-Žilina and railway line Košice-Žilina that form the Slovak east-west axis, on the railway line Zilina Bohumín with connections to the Czech Republic and Poland and the railway line Zilina Rajec .
The station is located on the Pan-European Corridor No. Va ( Bratislava - Žilina - Košice - Uzhhorod - Kiev ).

The train station is located northeast of the center of Žilina on Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav Street. It is possible to change to the local public transport network, which is served by buses and trolley buses.
history
The station was opened on January 8, 1871 with the Teschen –Sillein line as part of the construction of the Kaschau-Oderberger Bahn (Ks.Od.) in what was then Austria-Hungary and became a through station when the extension of the Ks.Od. Heading east on December 8, 1871. The station became a railway junction with the completion of the Trenčín – Sillein line, which is now part of the Bratislava – Žilina line.
In 1941 construction began on the new station building on the site of the original, after the administration building had been completed in 1940. The area was bombed and damaged by the approaching front during World War II. Eventually the new building was completed in 1946.
The railway infrastructure of the station is now owned by the Železnice Slovenskej republiky (ŽSR). The trains are operated by Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK).
