admission

The Royal Albert Hall in London.

To kick off his two-year Journeyman World Tour , Clapton opened the tour in early January 1990 at the Royal Albert Hall in London with 18 consecutive concerts. The recordings of Running on Faith , White Room and Sunshine of Your Love by the so-called "4-piece Band" (a band consisting of four musicians) are included on both the album and the video release. They were recorded on January 24, 1990, as was the entire concert. The full video recording was later released as a bootleg in the United States . The audio from the 13th concert on February 3, 1990 was recorded for potential use on his album, but was not used. The recordings were still broadcast on BBC Radio 1 . On February 5th of the same year the video and audio recordings of the "Blues Night" were made, in which Robert Cray and Buddy Guy also participated. The titles Worried Life Blues , Watch Yourself and Have You Ever Loved a Woman can be found on both 24 Nights releases. On February 9, 1990, the recordings of the orchestra night were made. The tracks Bell Bottom Blues , Hard Times and Edge of Darkness were used for the publication.

Since Clapton was not yet very satisfied with some of the recordings, he had another 24 concerts in the Royal Albert Hall in February and March 1991, which also led to the title of the work. On February 10, 1991, Clapton and his nine-piece band, the "9-piece Band," recorded the title Badge for their upcoming release. Eight days later, the songs Pretending , Bad Love , Old Love and Wonderful Tonight were recorded. The song Hoodoo Man with Jimmie Vaughan as guest guitarist was recorded on February 28, 1991.

Backdrop

Clapton's Gianni Versace suit.

Eric Clapton wore a selection of bespoke suits by Italian fashion designer Gianni Versace throughout the Journeyman World Tour , including the 24 Nights concerts . He also had his guitar straps from Versace decorated with rhinestones .

Clapton mentioned the collaboration in his 1990 Journeyman Tour program: “Anyone who has a good eye and has seen me at concerts in the past five years will recognize that I'm a Gianni Versace fan. His attitude and his claim to design and colors combine rock music with the purity of classical tailoring. ”(“ Anyone with a discerning eye who has seen me in concert during the last five years will know that I am a Gianni Versace fanatic ... His approach to design and his sensitivity to color appeal to the dormant artist in me and somehow I feel that his clothes bridge the gap between the fire of rock and roll and the purity of classical tailoring ... "). In his autobiography, Clapton described Versace as the best fashion designer in the world.

Criticism

Allmusic critic William Ruhlmann described the band line-up as Clapton's "best and most expressive ever". It is Clapton's "most powerful" performance of the Cream classics White Room and Sunshine of Your Love , "which have been documented". Although the double album has been superseded by the mega hits " Tears in Heaven and Unplugged , it's hard to find a more thorough elaboration of Clapton's art". He awarded three out of five points.
