Jerry Lynn Williams (born 1948 in Dallas , Texas , United States , † November 25, 2005 in Sint Maarten ) was an American singer and composer .

Work and death

Williams wrote hits for artists like Eric Clapton - including Forever Man , See What Love Can Do , Running on Faith , Pretending and Something's Happening - and helped Bonnie Raitt to earn a Grammy Award in 1989 for her album Nick of Time with the songs Real Man and I Will Not Be Denied . Before that he also wrote songs for Raitt's album Nine Lives . He has also written compositions for the artists Robert Plant , BB King , Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimmie Vaughan . In the 1970s, Jerry Lynn Williams released albums under Warner Bros. and CBS Records . His breakthrough came with the cover release of the Delbert McClinton hit Givin 'It Up for Your Love , which made it into the top 40 of the US charts. Clapton describes in his autobiography that he loved Williams singing. British author Marc Roberty claims that the pieces written by Williams adapt very well to Clapton's vocals.

Jerry Lynn Williams died of liver and kidney failure on his yacht on November 25, 2005 in Sint Maarten at the age of 57 . At the time of his death, Willams was bankrupt after a divorce settlement and copyright battle.
