Running on Faith is a rock song written by Jerry Lynn Williams and released on Eric Clapton's 1989 album Journeyman . In 1991 the song appeared on the live album 24 Nights and in 1992 an acoustic version on the album Unplugged . The song also appears on the compilation albums Complete Clapton and Clapton Chronicles: The Best of Eric Clapton .

The original song is in the key of G major. Clapton also plays the first solo on the 24 Nights version in G major, but switches between G major and G minor in the second solo. The Unplugged uptake played Clapton on a tuned in open G dobro with slide technique . In 2009, Clapton played the acoustic interpretation of the piece again during his Japan tour with a normally tuned guitar.

Critic Matthew Greenwald of the music website Allmusic described the song as an "often overlooked masterpiece from the Journeyman blockbuster ." Clapton's bluesy vocals, surrounded by a perfect melody and the intentionally kept simple arrangement are excellent. Running on Faith reached number 15 on the mainstream rock charts in 1993 and placed 28th on the adult contemporary charts.
