Me and Mr. Johnson is Eric Clapton's 15th studio album and was released in 2004. The album pays homage to the blues musician Robert Johnson .

According to Clapton's biography , the recordings should not be published. When he was in the studio with his band but had no songs for the recording session, he suggested recording some Johnson songs. When enough pieces were together, Clapton decided to release an album with them.

Reception and awards
Allmusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine awarded three and a half of a possible five rating units for the album. On March 29, 2004, Chris Willman of Entertainment Weekly rated the album with a "B +" rating. According to the music magazine Uncut , Clapton convinced more with his blues singing than on From the Cradle . The songs are also very well chosen. USA Today 's Edna Gundersen described Clapton's understanding and interpretation of the blues as graceful. The album reached number five on the album charts in Austria. The album positioned itself on ranks seven and eight in Switzerland and Germany. In the UK, Me and Mr. Johnson was number ten on the UK album charts. In the United States, the album reached number six on the Billboard 200 , number one on the top blues album charts and number six on the top Internet album charts. In 2004 the album reached number three in the top Canadian album charts in Canada.
