Ballads is a compilation album by British rock musician Eric Clapton containing thirteen rock ballads . It was released on December 23, 2003 exclusively for the Japanese market by the Warner Brothers Japan label and was only available for three months.
reception
Critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine of the music website Allmusic wrote that the psychedelic title Badge did not fit into the composition of the album . But the album is worthwhile for casual fans of Clapton who are looking for nice mood music. He awarded a total of 2.5 out of 5 possible rating units for the album. Ballads reached number 7 on the Japanese album charts and stayed there for 18 weeks. Music journalist Ayano Miyahara of the Yomiuri Shimbun described the album as excellent and praised both Clapton's singing and guitar playing. Regarding the title Wonderful Tonight , he wrote: “This song expresses both Clapton's passionate masculine and sentimental side.” Miyahara also found that the lyrics and melody harmonize perfectly. Critics of the website artistdirect.com gave 2.5 out of 5 points. Mister Udo from Udo Artists Japan described the work as a "wonderful experience". todomusica.org gave Ballads 5 out of 5 stars .
marketing
In the Japanese cities of Tokyo , Yokohama , Osaka and Nagoya in particular , intensive advertising measures were taken in order to achieve the highest possible number of records sold in just 98 days. The album was featured on Japanese television and numerous advertising posters were posted in public places as well as on buses and trains. The advertising campaign started in mid-December 2003 and ended at the end of March of the following year.
