Planes, Trains and Eric (also Planes, Trains and Eric: The Music, The Stories, The People - Mid and Far East Tour 2014 ) is a music documentary about Eric Clapton's spring 2014 music tour . The film was released in Germany on October 31, 2014.

The film begins with an interview with Clapton. This is followed by the first concert title Tell The Truth from Singapore . The interview sequences alternate with the songs during the film. The travel events, sound checks and concerts from Japan recorded four weeks beforehand will follow. As the film progresses, Clapton, band members, friends and managers describe their story in the Far East. Clapton receives an award from Udo Artists for his 200th appearance in Japan and 83rd in the Nippon Budōkan and is honored as the international record holder with the most appearances in Japan. Further recordings from Bahrain , the United Arab Emirates and their concert development will be shown. Whether Clapton will now withdraw from the touring business at the age of 70 remains unknown.

Criticism

The mail order company Jpc awarded 4.5 of the 5 possible evaluation units . Andreas Schiffmann of the website Musikreviews.de described the work as a "three-quarter concert DVD and a quarter of a documentary full of original sounds on the subject of Eric Clapton in his golden years, no more and no less." Music editor Michael Donhauser from Sächsische The newspaper describes the concert film as "decisively shaping" and praised the arrangement of the music DVD. Critic Andreas Platthaus from the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung thinks that Planes, Trains and Eric show "a lusty Eric Clapton". Overall, Platthaus was very positive about the publication.

Chart success

The DVD reached number 65 in the German album charts and stayed there for a week. The concert film was ranked 4th on the Swiss charts and stayed there for 3 weeks. In the Australian DVD charts of the Australian Recording Industry Association , the release was number 4. In the Netherlands , the concert film was number 7 on the DVD chart and at the end of 2014 it was number 43 in the charts. In France , the concert film reached number 23 on the DVD chart.
