The Cream of Eric Clapton is a compilation album released in September 1987 by British rock musician Eric Clapton . It contains his most popular solo artist titles to date, as well as songs from his bands Cream and Derek and the Dominos . The album achieved gold and platinum status in numerous regions and sold more than 3.1 million copies worldwide.

Due to high demand, the album was later re-released in the UK , Japan , Canada, Brazil and Australia. It was released on record , compact disc and music cassette . The US-American music magazine Billboard named the album in its August 1, 1987 issue as “the most anticipated compilation album of the year” and rated demo releases of the album with five out of five possible stars. The Allmusic critic Richard Gilliam describes the compilation as a "solid collection, an excellent overview of one of the best rock musicians" provides. He also praised the historical component of the album. Overall, Gilliam awarded four of the five possible rating units for the album.
Chart placements
The album was number 3 on the British album charts and stayed 104 in the hit parade. In November 1987 the album was awarded a platinum record in Great Britain for more than 300,000 units sold, and in January 1991 it achieved a triple platinum award for more than 900,000 units sold. In the Netherlands , the album reached number 78 in the Dutch Charts and was awarded a gold record in France and Switzerland. In Canada, the album was unable to secure a placement in the music charts, but was nevertheless awarded gold in July 1987 for 50,000 units sold. In Australia, The Cream of Eric Clapton reached number 12 on the ARIA charts and was awarded a platinum record. By 1988, more than 1.2 million copies of the compilation album had been sold worldwide, according to Billboard .
