Marcella Detroit , actually Marcy Levy , (born June 21, 1952 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American singer and songwriter.

Career

Marcy Levy had her first band when she was 18, and in the early 1970s she was a member of the Bob Seger Band and went on tour. She was with Eric Clapton since the album "There's one in every crowd" from 1975 to "Backless" in 1978 and is among other things co-author of his hit Lay Down Sally (1977). She later supported Clapton on the album "Behind the Sun" and gave him a song for "August". In 1985 she performed with Clapton at the Live Aid concert. She also worked with artists such as Aretha Franklin and Phil Collins .

In the spring of 1988 Siobhan Fahey, who left Bananarama , founded the band Shakespears Sister, which was originally designed as a solo project . When the collaboration with Marcella Detroit went well, Fahey expanded the project with her into a duo. Their joint successes include You're History (1989: UK # 7, DE # 55), the number 1 hit Stay (1992: UK # 1, DE # 3, US # 4) and Hello (Turn Your Radio On ) (1992: UK # 14, DE # 12).

After Detroit split from Shakespears Sister in spring 1993, she pursued her own musical plans, appeared on Elton John's Duets album in the same year and had her greatest single success in spring 1994 with I Believe (UK # 11, DE # 81) . This song was covered in 2005 by Joana Zimmer , who achieved second place in Germany with her version of the title and thus achieved gold status.

In addition to her own music career, she now works for other artists as a composer and music video producer.
