The Reformed Church of Speicher is a Reformed church building in Speicher AR , Switzerland .

history

Speicher received its first church in 1614, but due to the population increase it had to be replaced by a new building in 1723. Since this was partially destroyed by a lightning strike in 1804, another new building was necessary. Today's sacred building was built from 1808 to 1810 according to plans by Konrad Langenegger . Right next to the church are the rectory from 1831 and the schoolhouse from 1840.

description

The church rises on a small hill and shapes the appearance of Speicher. A park stretches in front of the building, which gives the wide, classical building an almost palatial effect.

Exterior

The building, designed as an octagonal transverse church , has a hipped roof . The facades are dominated by pilaster strips , the design of which is reminiscent of rustics , as well as high, typically classical lattice windows . A sundial is installed above the main portal . The tower with its belfry and tower clock is adorned with a Welsche dome , which is crowned by a lantern with a smaller dome.

inner space

The interior is based on the cross-directional sermon hall, which is popular for Reformed churches. Accordingly, the pulpit is on the long side of the church, while the baptismal font is in front of it. Pulpit and baptismal font from stucco marble comes as the Empire - stucco on the ceiling, by representatives of the plasterer Dynasty Moosbrugger . There is a clock above the pulpit.

The pilasters are provided with fluting and freely designed capitals of Ionic order . They seem to be supported by entablature with a frieze of serrations that is broken through by the stitch caps . The polygonally closed narrow sides of the church are filled with two galleries . The two-manual organ with a modern prospectus was built in 1966 by the Rieger Orgelbau company.
