In 1961 the track was recorded by Freddie King and released on Federal Records . On the recording, King plays guitar and sings the track. He is accompanied by pianist Sonny Thompson , bassist Bill Willis and drummer Phillip Paul. When the single (No. 23484) was released by Federal Records, it hit the Billboard Hot 100 along with B-side You've Got to Love Her with a Feeling . The song is also featured on King's 1961 debut album, Freddy King Sings .

Further interpretations of the song were u. a. published by Eric Clapton . In November 1965, Clapton covered the title with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers for the first time. With his band Derek and the Dominos , Clapton played another version for the 1970 album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs . Clapton's solo renditions appeared on the albums EC Was Here (1975), Just One Night (1980), 24 Nights (1991), Crossroads 2: Live in the Seventies (1996), Live In Hyde Park and Blues (1998), One More Car, One More Rider (2002) and at the Crossroads Guitar Festival 2004 .
