Slowhand at 70 - Live at the Royal Albert Hall is a concert film and live album by British rock musician Eric Clapton . The recordings include recordings of Clapton's Royal Albert Hall concert on May 21, 2015, which was recorded during his 70th Birthday Celebration tour. The concert film was released in cinemas and theaters around the world from September 14, 2015 . On November 13, 2015, the live recordings were released on Blu-ray , Compact Disc , DVD and record .

admission

Initially, two of the London concerts were recorded for a theatrical, video and audio release in 2015. The first show took place on May 20, 2015. Clapton performed a total of seventeen pieces that evening, which should leave room for editing because of possible poor recordings. A second appearance was recorded on May 21, 2015. In the end, only these recordings were used for publication.

The Briton Paul Carrack , who was on tour with Clapton as an organist and singer , recalled the recordings for the music film in an interview with the Canadian National Post : “The music was fantastic. Eric doesn't really care that he turned seventy. It was like any other gig for all of us. However, the Royal Albert Hall had a special atmosphere. When we gave our first concert this time, Eric said that he would like to skip the next concert dates. The second evening was much better. […] When Eric plays at the Royal Albert Hall, it's all about the music. It feels like playing in a small club. Especially if you only play in huge arenas and auditoriums that are not really made for concerts and loud music. But the Royal Albert Hall just has this wonderful, intimate atmosphere ”.

content

According to the official announcement, the concert film will feature "classics and fan favorites from Eric Clapton's career," as well as pieces he recorded with bands such as Cream and Derek and the Dominos , as well as titles he made famous during his time as a solo artist. The theatrical release's track list includes songs like Layla , I Shot the Sheriff , Tears in Heaven and Wonderful Tonight . In Eric Clapton: Live at the Royal Albert Hall , Clapton is shown playing his concert on May 21, 2015 with his band, while sequences repeatedly show impressions of the Royal Albert Hall. A special theatrical featurette consists of Paul Gambaccini , who, together with his journalist colleagues Paul Sexton and Hugh Fielder, interviewed Clapton's band members Paul Carrack, Andy Fairweather Low and Chris Stainton about the music film and reiterated Clapton's long history with the Royal Albert Hall.
