Kurt Pomplun

Kurt Pomplun (born July 29, 1910 in Schöneberg , † August 5, 1977 in Berlin ) was a German homeland researcher . He published works on the history of Berlin and Brandenburg , its dialect and orally transmitted fairy tales and legends.

Kurt Pomplun was the only son of a post office clerk and grew up in the then still independent town of Schöneberg. He attended the higher state college for surveying, which he graduated as an engineer for surveying. From the 1930s on, he initially worked for the Teltow District Office, where he began to look after historical monuments. He saw himself as a student of the historian Willy Hoppe .

From 1965 he worked in the Office for Monument Preservation in Berlin, until 1973 as a government official, then as a councilor. He was a volunteer district homeworker . He became known through contributions to the radio show Kutte knows about (1967–1977) the RIAS , moderated by Horst Kintscher . In addition to exploring Berlin, he also edited some Baedeker travel guides , including a. the district band for Schöneberg from 1973, but also many cities such as Braunschweig and Nuremberg .

His book Berlin's old village churches was created on the basis of his article The medieval village church building on the Teltow . It had a total of six editions between 1962 and 1984 and is still considered a popular standard work today. However, his level of knowledge from 1960 has now been overtaken in several points by modern research methods, see Pomplun's classic: Berlin's old village churches .

On August 5th, 1977 Kurt Pomplun died of heart failure during a discussion in the Schöneberg bookstore Elwert und Meurer.

Honors

In 1971 he received the Fontane plaque and in 1975 the Fidicin Medal of the Association for the History of Berlin . In 1974 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon .

The city of Berlin honored him with an honorary grave in the Wilmersdorf cemetery in the department B1-UW-53.
