Kim Jong-chol (also Kim Jong-chul, born September 25, 1981 in Pyongyang , North Korea ) is the second eldest son of the late North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il and his former wife Ko Yong-hi . He is the brother of Kim Jong-un , the successor to Kim Jong-il, and the half-brother of Kim Jong-nam , the eldest son of Kim Jong-il.

Little is known about his biography. Jasper Becker wrote in his book Rogue Regime 2005 that he could have attended the International School of Berne (ISB) in Gümligen and was presumably passed off under the code name Chol Pak as the child of an employee of the North Korean embassy. These rumors have not been officially confirmed. According to Kenji Fujimoto , the former head chef (1988-2001) of Kim Jong-il, Kim Jong-chol was effeminate and not taken seriously by his father. According to his father, Kim Jong-chol does not have the format and qualifications to succeed him. Instead, Kim Jong-il chose his youngest son Kim Jong-un to succeed him in 2010. In 2006 it was still suspected that Kim Jong-chol would carry on the family tradition.

Kim Jong-chol appears to be a fan of Eric Clapton . He was seen several times attending Clapton concerts accompanied by a North Korean entourage - in 2006 in Germany, 2011 in Singapore and on May 21, 2015 in London. However, journalists could not contact him. He did not answer any questions or was shielded by his companions.
