Brownie (guitar)
Brownie is the nickname of a Fender Stratocaster that English guitarist Eric Clapton bought in London in 1967 and auctioned off in New York City in 1999 for a charity for $ 450,000 .

Clapton played a red Gibson ES-335 named Cherry Red and a Gibson Les Paul named Beano during his time with Cream , the Yardbirds, and alongside John Mayall . In 1967, a few days before Cream traveled to New York to record Disraeli Gears , he bought a used Fender Stratocaster in London, built in 1956. With Brownie, Clapton recorded his debut album Eric Clapton and Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs - which is guitar seen on both covers. Clapton also toured with Brownie in the early 1970s until he bought Blackie after another visit to the United States .
In 1999 Brownie was auctioned in New York for the Crossroads Center in Antigua. The auction ended at $ 450,000 and was the most expensive electric guitar in the world until the Blackie was sold in 2004.
In 2013 the Fender Custom Shop honored the instrument with a tribute model limited to 100 pieces. The price was € 14,000.
