Karl Schröder (born December 8, 1876 in Hamburg ; † July 25, 1960 there ) was a German bank clerk and amateur magician .

Life

Karl Schröder was interested in magic from an early age and was supported in it by his father. He completed a bank apprenticeship and later became head of a bank in Hamburg.

After eight years in Singapore , Schröder founded a magic association on May 8, 1912, which he named the Magic Circle of Germany . In July 1918, Schröder began to publish a monthly newsletter under the name MAGIE, which until today (2015) has been published eleven times a year as a club magazine.

Schröder initially remained president of the association until 1923, the seat of which was then relocated to Leipzig from 1924 to 1929. During this time, the publisher Ferdinand Uter headed the association. Thereafter until 1935 Karl Schröder was again the president, who brought the seat of the association back to Hamburg. His successor was the magician Kalanag (Helmut Schreiber).

After the Second World War, when the club members were scattered to the wind, Schröder rebuilt the club structures in 1946/47.
