Peter Kurongku

Peter Kurongku (* 1930 in Tonnui , Papua New Guinea ; † June 11, 1996 in Port Moresby ) was a Papua New Guinean clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Port Moresby .

Life

Peter Kurongku received on 21 December 1966 by the Bishop of Bougainville , Leo Lemay SM, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On November 15, 1978 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Sinnuara and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Honiara on Solomon Islands . The Archbishop of Honiara, Daniel Willem Stuyvenberg SM , gave him on 25 March 1979 in Holy Cross Cathedral in Honiara , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Bougainville, Gregory Singkai , and the Bishop Emeritus of Bougainville, Leo Lemay SM.

On October 3, 1981, Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Port Moresby. The inauguration took place on November 7th of the same year.

On June 14, 1986, Peter Kurongku was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire .
