Curtis Stigers (born October 18, 1965 in Boise , Idaho ) is an American singer and saxophonist .

Live and act

Stigers celebrated his greatest successes in the early 1990s with the pop ballad I Wonder Why , an international top 10 hit ( US 9th place in 1991, 5th place in the UK, 8th place in DE ), and You're All That Matters to Me (1992 , UK 6th place). Both titles come from his debut LP Curtis Stigers (1991), which earned him several platinum awards around the world. Overall, the album sold over one and a half million times worldwide. He had another great success the following year with his interpretation of the song Peace, Love and Understanding by Nick Lowe on the soundtrack of the film The Bodyguard . With the album Time Was (1995) he was unable to build on these successes. In an interview with Neue Musikzeitung at the end of 2009, he reported on his experiences as a pop musician and the conflicts with the record company Arista : “They didn't care about music at all. What mattered was the next hit, or what they thought it was. At some point I only had to deal with suit guys who told me what music to sing. "

From the beginning of the 2000s he made a change in style to jazz , which he originally came from. Several albums with jazz standards followed . In 2010 he was named International Jazz Singer of the Year with the ECHO Jazz Prize, which was awarded for the first time .

In 2011 he released the blues-rock piece This Life , which became known as the theme song for the television series Sons of Anarchy , together with the band 'The Forest Rangers' . For this series he also covered the gospel / blues piece John the Revelator , which can be heard at the end of the last episode of the first season. Stiger's album Let's Go Out Tonight preferably included cover versions of songs by other artists - for example Richard Thompson , Neil Finn and Jeff Tweedy . Also included on the album is a cover version of the Bob Dylan piece Things Have Changed - a recording by a singer whom Stiger claims to appreciate very much. His thirteenth solo album Gentleman was released in spring 2020 .

Private

Stigers is married to a second marriage and has a daughter from his first marriage.
