Auburn Hills is a city in Oakland County , Michigan , United States . The 2010 census recorded a population of 21,412. The city was founded in 1983 when the administrative unit Pontiac Township was dissolved, other parts of Pontiac Township today form the city of Pontiac (Michigan) and the City of Lake Angelus. The American headquarters of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles , Edag , Continental AG , Benteler Automotive Corporation and BorgWarner are located here, and Volkswagen Group of America also has an operating facility there. General Motors has a manufacturing facility in Lake Orion.

The population density is 461.1 inhabitants per km². 75.92% of the population are White , 13.22% African American , 0.32% Native American , 6.33% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 1.56% from other races, and 2.61% mixed race . 4.50% are Latinos of various origins.
Of the 8,064 households, 26.7% have children under the age of 18. 43.0% of them are married couples living together, 10.5% are single mothers, 42.9% are not families, 33.1% are single households and 6.0% are people older than 65. The average household size is 2 .25, the average family size 2.92.

Numerous companies have their global or US headquarters in Auburn Hills, including some of the most important companies in the automotive supply industry, such as B. Faurecia , Borg Warner , Autoliv and Nexteer Automotive . Volkswagen set up shop in Auburn Hills in 1991, but relocated North American operations to Herndon , Virginia in 2007 .
Main traffic routes
Interstate 75 (I-75) runs through Auburn Hills in a north-south direction and the M59 in an east-west direction. I-75 connects Auburn Hills to Detroit, north to Michigan’s Lower Peninsula . Both streets intersect directly on the south side of Chrysler headquarters.
Silverdome and Clinton River Trail
On the south side of Auburn Hills, the Silverdome is near the I75 – M59 junction. Its roof collapsed a few years ago and is currently being demolished (March 2017). Also on the south side is the Clinton River Tail. This trail is part of a network of Michigan bike trails. In Auburn Hills, the trail connects Pontiac and Oakland in an east-west direction.
