Rochester [ ˈɹɑːtʃɪstɚ ] is a city in the southeast of the US state Michigan . This is in the north of the USA on the border with Canada . In 2000 Rochester had 10,467 inhabitants.

Rochester is close to the western shores of Lake Erie and close to the border with Detroit , to whose metropolitan area the city belongs. Rochester is part of Oakland County , one of the wealthiest counties in the world. It is located on the so-called "Automation Alley", an area that owes its name to a cluster of company headquarters whose products are high technology . history

The first settlement by settlers of European descent in the region of Oakland County took place on March 17, 1817 by James Graham and his family in the area of ​​what is now Rochester. This event is celebrated annually in Rochester today with the Founders Day Celebration .

education

Rochester is home to Oakland University , which opened in 1959. In addition, the largest "law school" (equivalent to a law school ) in the USA has a campus in Rochester; the private Thomas M. At the old, hydro-powered Yates Cider Mill, there is a traditional apple cider farm with sightseeing opportunities and a supporting program.
