Bloomfield Hills is a city in Oakland County in the US state of Michigan . It is the richest city in the United States outside of California and Florida and has a population of 3,869. The area is 12.9 km². Detroit is approximately 14 miles away.
Bloomfield Hills is home to the Cranbrook Educational Community , which includes the Cranbrook Schools , a natural history museum and a renowned art museum.
The city became well-known in particular for the Machus Red Fox restaurant , the hangout of the controversial union leader Jimmy Hoffa , from whose parking lot he disappeared on July 30, 1975 without a trace.
Actor Robin Williams and Chad Smith , the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers , and Ann Romney , the wife of Mitt Romney , grew up in Bloomfield Hills.
