Oxford is a village in Oakland County in the US state of Michigan , United States . The village belongs to the Oxford Charter Township and is also in the metropolitan area of ​​Detroit . In 2010 Oxford had a population of 3,436.

history

During the early 19th century, the northeastern portion of Oakland County was sparsely populated as the first published survey reports largely depicted it as swamp and marshland . In the late 1820s, however, the first settlers came to what is now Oxford and found a surprisingly fertile and usable part of the county.

One of the first settlers known by name was Elbridge G. Deming. The first official post office established on May 2, 1834, was named after him, Demingsburgh . On January 15, 1839, the place changed its name to Oxford . In 1876 the place became an independent municipality with full administration and at the same time received its first marshal to maintain public security. A local weekly newspaper, The Oxford Leader, has existed since 1898 .

The town center with shops, restaurants and bars is now concentrated on an area of ​​two blocks . It also includes the local park, which is widely used for social, cultural and sporting events throughout the year.

The residents of Oxford distributed to 1402 households out of which 35.6% had children under 18 years of age. 53.4% ​​of households were married, 9.4% had a female householder without a husband, and 34.5% were not families. 29.6% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 7.2% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.15.

The population was divided into 28.2% minors, 8.1% 18–24 year olds, 34.4% 25–44 year olds, 21.2% 45–64 year olds and 8.2% aged 65 and over or more. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 women there were 96.6 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 93.7 men.
