The Oakland County is a county in the US state of Michigan . The county seat is in Pontiac . It is part of Metro Detroit , the metropolitan area around the city of Detroit , and is one of the wealthiest regions in the United States. It has a technology industry center unofficially called Automation Alley . Unlike the neighboring counties, where a higher proportion of workers can be found, the residents of Oakland County work mostly as employees, especially in the service sector, in management or in offices.

The area of ​​the county is 2,532 km²; 92 km² of this is water. The southern limit of the county is formed by the Eight Mile Road , which is the northern limit of Detroit (located in Wayne County ). This can be seen as an unofficial dividing line between the predominantly black city ​​and the predominantly white suburbs. In recent years, this pattern of de facto racial segregation has eased somewhat as blacks increasingly moved north.
