Clinton County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is St. Johns .

The county is located just south of the geographic center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of ​​1,488 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Gratiot County , Shiawassee County , Ingham County , Eaton County, and Ionia County .

history

Clinton County was formed as the original Free Territory County in 1831. It was named after DeWitt Clinton , a governor of New York who was responsible for building the Erie Canal .

Five buildings in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 23, 2017).

Clinton County had a population of 64,753 people as of the 2000 census . 805 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 23,653 households and 17,976 families. The population density was 44 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.40 percent white, 0.63 percent African American, 0.44 percent Native American, 0.52 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.81 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.17 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.61 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 52,806 , and the median income for a family is $ 60,491. Males had a median income of $ 42,379 versus $ 31,065 for females.
