Clinton County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is St. Johns .

The county is located just south of the geographic center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1,488 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Gratiot County , Shiawassee County , Ingham County , Eaton County, and Ionia County .
history
Clinton County was formed as the original Free Territory County in 1831. It was named after DeWitt Clinton , a governor of New York who was responsible for building the Erie Canal .
Five buildings in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of November 23, 2017).

Clinton County had a population of 64,753 people as of the 2000 census . 805 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 23,653 households and 17,976 families. The population density was 44 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.40 percent white, 0.63 percent African American, 0.44 percent Native American, 0.52 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.81 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.17 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.61 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 23,653 households, 37.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.3 percent were married couples living together, 8.4 percent were single mothers, and 24.0 percent were non-families. 19.8 percent were single households and 7.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.12.
28.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.5 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 10.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 95.6 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 52,806 , and the median income for a family is $ 60,491. Males had a median income of $ 42,379 versus $ 31,065 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,913. 3.3 percent of families and 4.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
