Antrim County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Bellaire .

The county is located in the north of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, bordered to the west by Lake Michigan , one of the five great lakes , and has an area of 1,559 square kilometers, of which 324 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Charlevoix County , Otsego County , Kalkaska County , Grand Traverse County, and Leelanau Counties .
history
Antrim County was formed in 1840 as Meegisee County from parts of Mackinac County. It was named after County Antrim in Ireland .

Antrim County had a population of 23,110 people as of the 2000 census . 286 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 9,222 households and 6,713 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.01 percent white, 0.19 percent African American, 1.07 percent Native American, 0.15 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.30 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.18 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.23 percent of the population.
Of the 9,222 households, 29.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.0 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers, and 27.2 percent were non-families. 23.4 percent were single households and 10.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.89 people.
24.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 6.3 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 25.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 26.6 percent between 45 and 64 years of age and 17.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over, there were statistically 96.8 men.
The median income for a household in the 38.107 USD , and the median income for a family 43,488 USD. Males had a median income of $ 32,248 versus $ 21,699 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,485. 6.2 percent of families and 9.0 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
