St. Joseph County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Centerville .

The county is located in the southwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, borders Indiana to the south and has an area of ​​1,350 square kilometers, of which 45 square kilometers are water. In Michigan, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Cass County , Kalamazoo County, and Branch Counties .

St. Joseph County was established as the original Free Territory county in 1822. It was named after Saint Joseph, the patron saint of New France .

According to the 2000 census , St. Joseph County had 62,422 people in 23,381 households and 16,600 families. The population density was 48 inhabitants per square kilometer.
