Saginaw County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Saginaw .

The county is located slightly southeast of the geographic center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, is about 15 km to the northeast from Lake Huron , one of the five great lakes , and has an area of 2113 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Bay County , Tuscola County , Genesee County , Shiawassee County , Gratiot County, and Midland County .

Saginaw County was formed in 1822 from parts of Oakland County. It was named after an Indian expression.

According to the 2000 census , Saginaw County had 210,039 people in 80,430 households and 55,818 families. The population density was 100 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 75.33 percent white, 18.62 percent African American, 0.41 percent Native American, 0.80 percent Asian, 0.01 percent from the Pacific island area and 2.88 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.95 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.70 percent of the population.
Of the 80,430 households, 32.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.2 percent were married couples living together, 15.4 percent were single mothers, and 30.6 percent were non-families. 26.0 percent were single households and 10.4 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.06.
26.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 9.0 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.5 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 88.4 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the 38,637 USD , and the median income for a family 46,494 USD. Males had a median income of $ 40,514 versus $ 25,419 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,438. 11.0 percent of families and 13.9 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
