Hillsdale County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Hillsdale .

The county is located in the extreme south of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, borders Ohio to the south, with Indiana at the southwestern corner and has an area of ​​1572 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Jackson County , Lenawee County , Branch County, and Calhoun Counties .

history

Hillsdale County was formed as the original free territory county in 1829. It was named after the hilly country in which the county is located.

Hillsdale County had a population of 46,527 as of the 2000 census . 1,481 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 17,335 households and 12,550 families. The population density was 30 people per square kilometer.
