Ogemaw County is a county in the US state of Michigan . The county seat is West Branch .

The county is located in the northeastern part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, about 45 km to the east from Lake Huron , one of the 5 Great Lakes , and has an area of ​​1,488 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Oscoda County , Iosco County , Arenac County , Gladwin County, and Roscommon County .

Ogemaw County was formed as the original Free Territory County in 1840. In 1867 it went up in Iosco County and became an independent county again in 1873. It was named after the Indian word ogimaa , which means chief, leader or chief.
