Lenawee County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Adrian .

The county is located in the southeast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, borders Ohio to the south , is about 35 km to the east from Lake Erie , one of the 5 Great Lakes , and has an area of 1972 square kilometers, of which 28 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Washtenaw County , Monroe County , Lucas County, Ohio, Fulton County, Ohio, Hillsdale County, and Jackson County .

Lenawee County was formed in 1822 from parts of Monroe County. It was named after a word from the Indian language.

According to the 2000 census , there were 98,890 people in 35,930 households and 26,049 families in Lenawee County. The population density was 51 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.51 percent white, 2.12 percent African American, 0.41 percent Native American, 0.46 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.01 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.49 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 6.96 percent of the population.
Of the 35,930 households, 34.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.7 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers, and 27.5 percent were non-families. 22.9 percent were single households and 9.7 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.07.
25.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 9.1 percent between 18 and 24 years, 28.6 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.7 percent between 45 and 64 years and 12.7 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 100.1 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 98 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 45,739 , and the median income for a family is $ 53,661. Males had a median income of $ 38,458 versus $ 25,510 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,186. 4.4 percent of families and 6.7 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
