The Monroe County is a county in the State of Michigan of the United States . The county seat is Monroe .
geography
The county is located in the extreme southeast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, borders Ohio to the south and the confluence of the Detroit River with Lake Erie , one of the Great Lakes , to the east . The Detroit River forms the border with the Canadian province of Ontario . Monroe County has an area of 1761 square kilometers, of which 334 square kilometers are water. history
Monroe County was formed in 1817 from parts of Wayne County. It was named after James Monroe (1758–1831), the fifth President of the USA.

According to the 2000 census , Monroe County had 145,945 people. 1,543 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 53,772 households and 39,952 families. The population density was 102 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.42 percent white, 1.90 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.47 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.62 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.31 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 2.13 percent of the population.
Of the 53,772 households, 36.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.0 percent were married couples living together, 10.1 percent were single mothers, and 25.7 percent were non-families. 21.7 percent were single households and 8.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.69 and the average family size 3.14.
27.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.1 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 29.8 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.5 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 11.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 95.2 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 51,743 , and the median income for a family is $ 59,659. Males had a median income of $ 46,715 versus $ 27,421 for females. The per capita income was $ 22,458. 4.8 percent of families and 7.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
