Oceana County is a county in the US state of Michigan . The county seat is Hart .

The county is located in the east of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, borders Lake Michigan , one of the 5 Great Lakes , and has an area of 3,384 square kilometers, of which 1985 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Mason County , Newaygo County, and Muskegon County .
history
Oceana County was formed in 1831 from parts of Mackinac County. It was named after Lake Michigan in reference to its size (ocean).
Seven buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of January 27, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Oceana County had 26,873 people in 9,778 households and 7,265 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.37 percent white, 0.32 percent African American, 1.04 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 6.10 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.89 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.61 percent of the population.
Of the 9,778 households, 34.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers, and 25.7 percent were non-families. 21.6 percent were single households and 9.5 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.09.
28.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 26.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 23.6 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.0 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 98.7 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 35,307 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,602. Males had a median income of $ 31,834 versus $ 22,236 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,878. 11.0 percent of families and 14.7 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
