Huron County is a county in the state of Michigan ( United States ). The county seat is in Bad Ax.

The county is located in the east of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, borders Lake Huron , one of the five great lakes , to the west, north and east , and has an area of ​​5533 square kilometers, of which 3367 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Sanilac County and Tuscola County .

history

Huron County was formed in 1840 from parts of Salinac County. It was named after Lake Huron , a lake in the area.

According to the 2000 census , Huron County had 36,079 people in 14,597 households and 10,144 families. The population density was 17 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.02 percent white, 0.19 percent African American, 0.28 percent Native American, 0.35 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.32 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.82 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.64 percent of the population.

The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 97.9 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 95.5 men.

The median income for a household in the 35,315 USD , and the median income for a family 42,436 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,950 versus $ 21,110 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,851. 7.3 percent of families and 10.2 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
