Missaukee County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Lake City .

The county is located in the north-central part of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan and has an area of 1,486 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Kalkaska County , Roscommon County , Clare County , Osceola County, and Wexford County .
history
Missaukee County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County. It was named after Missaukee , a chief of the Ottawa .
Three of the county's sites are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of January 27, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Missaukee County had 14,478 people in 5,450 households and 4,043 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.50 percent white, 0.20 percent African American, 0.50 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, 0.37 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.19 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.17 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,450 households, 34.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 62.8 percent were married couples living together, 7.4 percent were single mothers, and 25.8 percent were non-families. 21.5 percent were single households and 9.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.03.
27.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.5 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 14.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 99.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 98 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the 35,224 US dollars , and the median income for a family 39,057 USD. Males had a median income of $ 30,565 versus $ 20,905 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,072. 8.2 percent of families and 10.7 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
