Presque Isle County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Rogers City .

The county is located in the extreme northeast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, borders Lake Huron , one of the five great lakes , and has an area of 6,663 square kilometers, of which 4,954 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Alpena County , Montmorency County, and Cheboygan County .
history
Presque Isle County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County. It was named after the then common French expression for peninsula .
Ten structures and sites in the county are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of January 28, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Presque Isle County had 14,411 people in 6,155 households and 4,203 families. The population density was 8 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.07 percent white, 0.26 percent African American, 0.59 percent Native American, 0.16 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.09 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.82 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.55 percent of the population.
Of the 6,155 households, 24.5 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.8 percent were married couples living together, 6.3 percent were single mothers, and 31.7 percent were non-families. 28.4 percent were single households and 14.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.80.
20.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 6.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 22.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 27.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 22.3 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 99.2 males. Statistically, for every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 97.1 men.
The median income for a household in the 31,656 US dollars , and the median income for a family 37,426 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,275 versus $ 20,625 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,363. 6.8 percent of families and 10.3 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
