Ottawa County is a county in the state of Michigan in the United States . The county seat is Grand Haven .

The county is located in the central southwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, bordering Lake Michigan , one of the 5 Great Lakes , to the west , and has an area of ​​4,227 square kilometers, of which 2,762 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Muskegon County , Kent County, and Allegan Counties .

history

Ottawa County was formed in 1831 from parts of Mackinac County and Free Territory. It was named after the Ottawa Indian people .

According to the 2000 census , Ottawa County had 238,314 people in 81,662 households and 61,328 families. The population density was 163 inhabitants per square kilometer.
