Essex County is a county in the Canadian province of Ontario . The county seat is Essex , the administrative center is Windsor . The population is 388,782 (2011), the area 1850.78 km², which corresponds to a population density of 210.1 inhabitants per km². The county is named after the English county of Essex . It is located in the extreme southwest of the province between Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair .
