Peterborough County is a county in the southeast of the Canadian province of Ontario . The county seat is Peterborough . The population is 134,933 (2011), the area 3847.77 km², which corresponds to a population density of 35.1 inhabitants per km². The county was founded as the District of Colborne in 1838 and was given its current name in 1850.
