Hastings County is a county in the southeast of the Canadian province of Ontario . The county seat is Belleville , which is independent of the county. The population is 134,934 (2011), the area 6103.48 km², which corresponds to a population density of 22.1 inhabitants per km². The county is on the north shore of Lake Ontario . From 1837 to 1849 it was named Victoria County . It is named after Francis Rawdon-Hastings .
