Dufferin County is a county in the Canadian province of Ontario . The county seat is Orangeville . The population is 56,881 (2011), the area is 1486.31 km², which corresponds to a population density of 38.3 inhabitants per km². The county is named after the Earl of Dufferin , the governor general of Canada from 1872 to 1878. It is located in the southwest of the province on the watershed between Lake Huron , Lake Ontario , Lake Erie and Lake Simcoe .
