Milan is a city between the counties Monroe and Washtenaw in the US - State of Michigan between Toledo and Detroit , it was in 1831 established.
history
The city was formed in 1831 half from Monroe County (north) and Washtenaw County (south). About a quarter of the houses were built before World War II , 21% between 1940 and 1956 . The Community House was bought in 1935 by Henry Ford , in which he tried to make paint from soybeans. District residents can rent this house for small gatherings. In 2003 the technically very well equipped new Milan High School was opened, the director of which is currently Mr. Ron Reed. As a result, the other schools on site (Milan Area Schools) moved into the abandoned buildings on a chain principle.
Despite the increase in development, Milan is still identified with rural life. So it is not uncommon to find a house with a stable and doghouse standing on a few acres of land today. Milan is the seat of the federal prison, the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI), Milan.
Milan is also known for its automobile drag race, the Milan Dragway .

Milan is located at the intersection of the Ann Arbor Railroad and a railway line of the Norfolk and Western Railroad , about 20 km south of the town of Ann Arbor, which has a population of around 150,000, in whose shadow it also stands. Due to the small number of local shops, Milan's citizens are dependent on doing their shopping there. Ann Arbor is located to the north and is connected to Milan via the four-lane US Highway 23 , which runs through Milan in a north-south direction. The federal prison of Milan is to the east of the motorway-like road.
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city spreads over an area of 6.0 km² , of which 0.2 km² is covered with water. The water content of the total area is thus 3.45%. The Saline River meanders through the urban area from northwest to southeast.
Demographic statistics
In contrast to the nearby saltworks, which lies between Milan and Detroit and thus served in the past as a contact point for people who could not find a place to live in the latter, Milan was or is not so positively affected by immigration. After the census of 2000 live in Milan 4,775 people in 1,923 households and 1,271 families. The population density is 823.1 people / km². 27.6% of the population are under 18 years old, 18.7% between 18 and 24, 34.2% between 25 and 44, 19.1% between 45 and 64 and 10.5% 65 and older. The average age is 33 years. For every 100 women there are 92.3 men.
The median income for a household in Milan is US $ 48,510 and the median income for a family is US $ 57,596. Male residents of Milan earn an average of US $ 45,409 and females US $ 26,926.
