Lucas County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Toledo .

The county is located in northwest Ohio, borders Michigan in the north, Lake Erie in the northeast , the southernmost of the 5 Great Lakes and has an area of ​​1,543 square kilometers, of which 662 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Monroe County, Michigan, Ottawa County , Wood County , Henry County , Fulton County, and Lenawee County, Michigan.

history

Lucas County was formed on June 20, 1835 from parts of Henry, Sandusky and Wood Counties. It was named after Robert Lucas , the twelfth governor of Ohio and major general in the British-American War of 1812-1814.

There are two National Historic Landmarks in the county , the Fallen Timbers Battlefield , commemorating the Battle of Fallen Timbers , and the Edward D. Libbey House . 89 structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of May 10, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Lucas County had 455,054 people in 182,847 households and 116,290 families. The population density was 516 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.50 percent white, 16.98 percent African American, 0.26 percent Native American, 1.21 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 1.86 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.16 percent were descended from two or more races. The median income for a household in the 38,004 USD , and the median income for a family was 48,190 USD. Males had a median income of $ 39,415 versus $ 26,447 for females. The per capita income was $ 20,518. 10.7 percent of families and 13.9 percent of the population are below the poverty line. Of these, 19.7 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 8.7 percent were people over 65 years of age.
