Coshocton County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Coshocton .
geography
The county is located just east of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of 1,470 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Holmes County , Tuscarawas County , Guernsey County , Muskingum County , Licking County, and Knox Counties .
history
Coshocton County was formed on January 31, 1810 from parts of Muskingum County and Tuscarawas County. It was named after a term used by the Delaware Indians , which means something like union of water or ferry .

According to the 2000 census , Coshocton County had 36,655 people in 14,356 households and 10,164 families. The population density was 25 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.35 percent white , 1.09 percent African American , 0.17 percent American Indian , 0.32 percent Asian American , 0.03 percent Pacific islander and 0.20 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.84 percent were descended from two or more races . Hispanics or Latinos were 0.59 percent of the population .
Of the 14,356 households, 32.6 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 57.8 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers, 29.2 percent were non-families, 25.4 percent were single households and 11.9 percent had people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.01.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.2 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.4 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 24.0 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.7 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 92.7 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 34,701 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,676. Males had a median income of $ 31,095 versus $ 21,276 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,364. 7.0 percent of families and 9.1 percent of the population were below the poverty line. Of these, 10.4 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 9.1 percent were people over 65 years of age.
